It all started with Friday night. I told Ryan I wanted to go for Indian food for dinner, so we set up a plan to go to Masala Bollywood for dinner. But, Ryan planned the rest of the evening as a surprise. So, to start off, I got home at 3:30pm, and we left home at 4pm. We hoped on E train, and we got off at 5th Ave. Before I knew it, we were in line to get into the MOMA. Ryan had it all figured out because the MOMA is free from 4pm - 8pm on Fridays. We had a wonderful time browing the Kandinskys, Picassos and Chagals. I have to say, that if I was limited to visiting one museum in NYC, it would be the MOMA.
Next we headed off for dinner at Masala Bollywood. (http://www.masalabollywood.net/). The food was great. We had samosas, chicken tikka, chicken vindaloo, basmati rice and naan bread. We didn't know quite what we were doing, and it proved that we had ordered waaay too much food. But, now we know, and can be more saavy restauranteurs next time.
Afterward we took a long walk from 28th street and Lexington to 42nd street and 8th ave. It was definately called for, though, in lieu of the big dinner. Once we arrived at 42nd and 8th we picked up our movie tickets that Ryan had reserved. We saw "Across the Universe", the new film out set to songs of the Beatles. It was lacking in a real quality plot, but, neither Ryan nor I really expected much. So, if you're looking for an excuse to listen to classic Beatles tunes, despite lame story lines and mediocre character development, this is a great film to rent.
Meanwhile, today we spent a chill day in our own borough, Queens. Ryan bought a bike, and I cleaned the mildew out of our vents. As usual, we cooked some new recipes and have some suggestions. Here's what we cooked, and what we think:
Fried Green Olives with Blue Cheese:

We cooked this perfect to the recipe and were terribly disappointed. Not half as decadent as one would hope for an olive stuffed, fried, blue cheese recipe. Honestly, we threw out the recipe and won't even attempt to improve it.
Bratwurst with Apples, Onions and Saurkraut:

Sooooo good!!! We did not have bratwurst at our local grocer, so we used Polish sausage instead. Either way, it was great the way we did it, and I assume would be faboo w/ actual bratwurst. So easy and so hearty. Four thumbs up!
Mashed Potatoes with Leeks and Carrots:

Still as amazing as it was the last time we made it. I don't think we will ever make plain mashed potatoes again. Beware of having us around at Thanksgiving time, as we will add leeks and carrots to your traditional potatoes.
