Six Flags and Stockings

We decided we needed a vacation. So, on Wednesday we picked up the Zipcar and headed with our friend Kathryn to Six Flags New Jersey. We got there as soon as the park opened and 11 hours later finally headed back to the city. We had a blast to say the least. Kathryn was a great coaster buddy because she wanted to go-go-go just like Ryan and I do. We conjured up our inner twelve year olds and were even caught skipping several times.
The coasters were great. Here's a picture of Ryan in front of "El Toro". We got in line thinking, "eh, it's a wooden coaster...won't be all that great." We were wrong. It was fantastic! Great drops, amazing speed, tons of unexpected turns, and surprisingly smooth.

After a few hours of running around and screaming our heads off we needed a lunch break. We had brought a cooler and enjoyed a picnic lunch of sandwiches and Doritos in the parking lot. Livin' the high life! Here's a picture from lunch with Ryan and our car "Mayor" the Matrix. Zipcar names all of its vehicles.

After lunch we hit up the tallest, fastest coaster in the world. No, that's not an exaggeration. Kingda Ka reaches 428 feet and goes 120mph. It goes from 0 to 120 in several second down a straightaway then goes straight up for 45 stories and dives down in a vertical spiral. This was the first coaster in many years that actually made me nervous as we were in line. Needless to say, it was crazy and totally worth the hour wait. It went so fast I couldn't catch my breath as it took off.

This is a picture of the Great American Scream Machine. Very similar to the Viper for those who have been to Magic Mountain, but not as good. Just your average loop-de-looper.

So, it was a great day at the park and we were glad to squeeze in a bit of vacation amidst the craziness that is work right now. I'm busy at work with hall updates, renovations, furniture replacement and preparation for RA training, move-in and new student orientation. Don't be suprised if you don't see many updates between now and September.

But, amidst the craziness I was able to finish a Christmas stocking for Mom. For those who don't know, it's a long story, but we are all going to have new stockings this year. I don't want to show you the whole stocking yet since I want it to be a surprise for Mom, but here's a glimpse. I'm very pleased with the way it turned out.

Yeah! The stocking looks BEAUTIFUL! It inspires me to work on Ryan's. Can't wait to hang them over the fireplace in December. Yours truly, Mom

Yahoo! How you find time to work on a Christmas stocking and go ride that wide and crazy coaster is beyond me, but then you've always had more energy than the rest of us put together!!
We miss you both, love as always,
Nana

scary roller coasters... i'm petrified. at theme parks, i am a great purse holder. or coat rack.

unless it's disneyland... bring on space mountain!

somehow, we have been thinking of going to six flags w/ t&d, since they love roller coasters, so hubbs would have someone to ride with.

oh, and i'm super, totally, ridiculously impressed with your stocking. do you know how to sew? i'm trying to learn. could you teach me to attach a button?
